I wrote Seeking the Secret Scroll to help people in the throes of a health challenge shift their negative discourse and make self-empowering changes in their health and their life. Moving beyond the anger and fear that comes with a health challenge opens the door to discovering grace, inner strength, meaning and other gifts their healing journey offers.

I’ve been there! I am a doctor who has traveled my own healing journeys with debilitating arthritis and stage 4 throat cancer. I understand that when the pursuer ambushes you as a health problem, then pain, anger and fear often tag along as sidekicks. When arthritis struck, I thought of it as ‘the beast,’ and I tried everything – conventional medicine, alternative healing, meditation, nutrition, exercise, you name it – trying to kill that beast. I just wanted my old life back.

I refer to a health challenge as a ‘healing journey’ because we encounter many twists and turns, and peaks and valleys. We have a choice whether to see doom as our inevitable destination, or to face the trek with courage and grace, and a heart open to deep healing and growth. Such challenges can be a passage to a place where we discover deeper meaning and a higher sense of purpose in life.

So…over time, I adopted a new mantra:

“I empower my potential, not my problems.”

That phrase has served me beautifully through all of my life challenges thence forward. So then, when cancer showed up, I was able to embrace it as an opportunity for deep healing, and move forward with courage and grace.

I wrote this book to help you find your own gifts your unique healing journey has come to offer you.

Synopsis: Seeking the Secret Scroll tells the tale of a young man named Faro. He wakes up one morning and discovers the immortal black panther named Del Tah has come to torment him, and has chased away Faro’s best friend, Quo. Some readers will recognize the parallel between the name, Del Tah, and the Greek letter, Delta (Δ), the symbol used in science and mathematics to denote change. Quo’s full name is, of course, Status Quo.

“Why me? Why now?” Faro asks in dismay. As did I. And as, perhaps, did you.

“I just want my old life back,” Faro says with a moan. As did I. As have many others. Maybe you. The story follows Faro — along with his guides, his mentors and his tormentor — on an epic adventure through denial, fear, anger and conflict, to…?

Depending on Faro’s mindset, the journey can lead him down a road of darkness and misery, or to a better place. ‘A better place?’ you ask. And to that, I answer, “yes!”
